FIRST MEETING

Matt and Kayce met at work in June 2013 at Rutherford Hotel. Kayce had been working at the local pub for a couple of months when Matt was hired as the new bar manager.

“We got along really well from the start, becoming good friends quite fast and although neither of us were initially romantically interested, we quickly saw our relationship bloom.”

THE PROPOSAL

“We had travelled down to Sydney for Ed Sheeran’s December 2015 concert on the Wednesday and had booked Matt in for a V8 experience he had received that year for his birthday on the Friday.”

Kayce had made the plans and bookings for accommodation and those days’ activities, so Matt decided he would take one for the team and plan something for the Thursday night. He’d kept his plans secret and wanted to surprise Kayce (payback for his birthday present). “We navigated our way through Sydney and ended up at Circular Quay. Matt had booked an amazing dinner cruise around the harbour. Just before dessert, as the sun was about to set, we went to the top deck of the boat under beautiful fairy lights to admire the view and as I turned to face him, he was down on one knee with an engagement ring and asking me to be his wife. We were both so nervous about where this next step would take us, but incredibly excited for the future we would share. That night was filled with so much love, quirky smiles, laughter and dreams for our future together. Looking back, Matt was definitely nervous and a little jumpy in the lead up to it… I still can’t believe I didn’t see it coming.”

THE BIG DAY

We got ready that morning at Cypress. When the time came, we were driven separately around the corner to HVG in the limo with our bridal party. It had been overcast that morning but the rain held off!

We had Anthony perform our ceremony at the top of the waterfall in front of our closest family and friends and then had the majority of our location shoot in the beautiful gardens there.

The 10 of us then jumped back in the limo and were dropped off at Cypress to soak it all in and have some Canapés and drinks before the festivities started.

Speeches, food, cake and donuts, dancing and maybe a little too much drinking was enjoyed with our nearest and dearest.

The entire day was perfect but there were a few standout moments in the day for us.

Those special moments beforehand with our parents and our bridal party.

We had 10 nieces/nephews at that stage and being big on family, we asked them all to be in the wedding. Even though people called us mad, we were so happy we included them all! We did also hire the most amazing babysitter for the evening (thanks Dan!!) who did such a great job with them at the reception and then took them back to one of our villas for the night so our brothers and sisters didn’t have to stress as much and could enjoy themselves.

Our first dance! Matt had been struggling with a sporting injury to his knee for a bit over 2 years leading up to the wedding. There were 3 operations and a lot of pain, physio and running around in that time. His last operation was in June 2018 (4 months before the wedding) and was told he wouldn’t have full range of motion or be able to fully weight-bear for 13 weeks. We weren’t sure if he was going to be able to walk, not to mention dance at our wedding. About 3 weeks before the wedding, he decided he wanted to try so we booked in for the next week with a dedicated and talented choreographer who helped us pull together an amazing and memorable dance in just under 2 weeks. In that moment, I was ridiculously happy and so proud and gobsmacked of everything Matt had achieved in such a short time with the odds stacked against him. This amazing man

was now my husband and it proved that together there isn’t much we can’t do!

It was also an incredible feeling being surrounded by so many loved ones and sharing in such a beautiful day together, with them wishing nothing but the best for you.

But nothing quite beats that feeling you get with the love of your life standing at the other end of the isle or that moment at the end of the ceremony when you leave hand-in-hand on your way to the rest of forever.

It was a bit of an out of body experience. So much excitement, nervousness and love was felt that day. It went way too quick but it was without a doubt, the best day, 5th anniversary and fairytale wedding we could have hoped for — we both married our best friend!
